Crazy 2020!

My Dearest Avery,

Wow, this year has been so full so far. There's a lot going on in the world right now and you've definitely been impacted quite a bit by the changes. My Grandma Elinore and sister Rachel both passed away in January. And then just when we thought things were getting back to normal and we were going to have family in town for spring break, the Coronavirus hit us. This virus currently has us social distancing (staying 6 feet away from others who don't live with us) and under stay at home orders. Many places are closed but your dad and I are continuing to work from home, Evan stayed home for a while but is now back at Ms Patsy's every day, and her daughter, Cierra, comes over to watch you every day because you still have to do school, but you have to do it from home right now. It's a very strange time but it's for everyone's health and safety.

You're such a firecracker! You're super smart and learning so much in school. You have a problem mixing up your "d" and "b" letters but other than that you're doing great. You were also still in soccer before the stay at home orders were issued. This session of soccer was canceled but you had a lot of fun and were really good. I'm sure you'll be right back at it when things pick back up again.

When we have guests over, like your cousins or Cierra, your personality slightly changes because you switch into entertainer mode. It's pretty cute except when you forget that you're the child and we are the parents ;) You still love to dance and I was hoping to get you into a dance camp and a horseback riding camp this summer but not sure all of that will happen at this point. We've gone swimming once this year (pool is now closed) and you picked right back up where you left off - such a good swimmer!

You're a huge bread eater - love it more than anything else to eat. And you're so very caring. Whenever anyone gets hurt (usually Evan), your instinct is to run to get an ice pack, a blanket and a stuffy. I think you might wind up being some sort of care taker some day - that would fit you well. You love glitter chalk and bubbles and riding your scooter. We are having trouble with you falling around corners on your bike so you've been hesitant to ride it too much since you got it at Christmas, but we'll get there.

You're into playing with polly's pockets, LOL dolls, and starting into Barbies and unicorns. We read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and now we're reading Charlotte's Web. You are also starting to read to me! You enjoy reading Hop on Pop to me. We like to cuddle together and your body is always warmer than mine (just like dad's).

We were planning a soccer birthday party for you at the park but that had to be canceled because of the virus. Instead, we're going to spend a weekend at a cabin in the mountains and we're taking your birthday off work so we can enjoy the day with you. I just told you today that you won't be able to see your classmates on your birthday......that was hard for you to understand. You really hate this virus. Can't wait for you to enjoy your social life again :)

Here's your life in pictures right now.....

My sweet Avery, I call you my favorite daughter :) You can definitely drive me crazy sometimes, like when I have to tell you to do something for the fifth time but I honestly can't get enough of you. I also keep telling you to stop growing. You're silly and sweet and adventurous and nurturing. And you're ALMOST SIX! How did that happen?!

All My Love,
Mom
